Single lane closure scheduled for Kaumuali’i Highway on Tuesday following weekend crash
Motorists traveling along Kaumualiʻi Highway can expect delays on Tuesday, as state crews conduct emergency repairs to a damaged guardrail near Kāhili Road.
The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation announced that a one-lane closure is scheduled between mile markers 5.4 and 5.6 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 30.
The guardrail was struck in a motor vehicle crash late Sunday night, leaving the end section in need of immediate repair, according to the Hawai’i Department of Transportation in a press release.
To maintain driver safety, the department is required to restore the barrier within 48 hours of the incident. While repairs are underway, traffic will be alternated through the remaining open lane.
Due to bird fledgling activity, seasonal restrictions prohibit nighttime work in the area, so crews will complete the project during daylight hours. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journey and to proceed with caution in the work zone.
