Sen. Schatz of Hawaiʻi to discuss clean energy legislation at climate events in New York City
At the Climate Mayors Leadership Forum in New York City, U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz of Hawaiʻi will deliver a keynote address today about the future of clean energy and the importance of local climate action.
Schatz also will participate in moderated conversations at the New York Times’ Climate Forward Live, which will be livestreamed here and with Heatmap News.
On Thursday, Schatz will discuss how federal policy and private sector investment can bolster carbon dioxide removal efforts at a roundtable convened by the Carbon Removal Alliance.
Schatz has introduced the Carbon Dioxide Removal Research and Development Act and the Removing and Sequestering Carbon Unleashed in the Environment and Oceans (RESCUE Oceans) Act to advance carbond dioxide removal research and development in the United States.
“As a direct consequence of President Trump and Republicans’ war on clean energy, millions of Americans are paying more for electricity every month,” Schatz said in a press release. “The reality is: clean energy is cheap and protects the planet.”
While in New York, Schatz also will meet with climate leaders from Hawai‘i, foreign dignitaries, businesses and industry leaders, academics and advocates.
