No tsunami threat to Hawaiʻi following 7.5 magnitude earthquake off Russia coast

There is no tsunami threat to Hawai’i after a 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Friday afternoon near the east coast of Kamchatka, Russia, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The earthquake struck at approximately 4:38 p.m. and was six miles deep.

The earthquake was an aftershock of the magnitude 8.8 Kamchatka Peninsula earthquake that struck on July 29, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
