A Puhi man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Kūhiō Highway.

According to a preliminary report from Kaua‘i police, on Friday, at approximately 1:40 a.m., the man, identified as 37-year-old Yannick Doth, was driving a 2022 Toyota Highlander traveling south on Kūhiō Highway in front of Keālia Beach when he lost control of the vehicle.

The vehicle crossed the centerline, and the driver was ejected against the northbound guardrail. The operator sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, though the precise cause remains under investigation.
