Hawaii DOT introduces 20 new EV Charging stations at Honolulu Airport
Electric vehicle drivers now have more charging options as the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation has unveiled 20 new public EV charging stations at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
Located on the ground floor of the International Parking Structure, the new Level 2 OpConnect chargers are available at any time on a first-come, pay-per-use basis, according to a press release.

The charging stations feature standard J1772 connectors—also known as Type 1 or “J plugs”—and are part of a broader push to support Hawai‘i’s clean energy goals.
Hawai’i Department of Transportation Director Ed Sniffen said, “The new charging stations offer EV drivers a convenient and reliable charging option while at the airport.”
Charging costs are $0.44 per kilowatt-hour between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and $0.57 per kilowatt-hour from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m.
The $539,000 project is part of HDOT’s long-term strategy to build out EV infrastructure across the state.
“Hawai‘i consistently ranks among the top states for electric vehicle adoption, so it’s important that we continue to invest in charging infrastructure that supports the electrification of our transportation system,” added Sniffen.
Last month, the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation launched a pair of free airport wayfinding smartphone apps — including one for a Kaua‘i airport- designed to make the airport experience less stressful and more enjoyable for travelers.
HNL Airport also added a much-awaited online parking count feature. The estimated available parking counts can be found on the homepage and accessed via the app’s Airport Information link.

Drivers actively charging while parked in the designated stalls, and regular airport parking fees still apply. Payments can be made via the OpConnect mobile app, accessible through a QR code posted at each station.
The expansion represents a ongoing effort to upgrade transportation infrastructure across the state and lower emissions in one of the most EV-friendly states in the nation.
