Update, 4:34 p.m. Sept. 7: The coastal flooding statement issued for the state has been canceled.

The notice was issued midweek last week and was expected across the Hawaiian chain, according to officials with the National Weather Service.

The tide reached its highest point on Sunday afternoon, and the risk of coastal flooding will gradually decrease.

According to the National Weather Service, peak high tides related to the lunar cycle will cause minor coastal flooding along shorelines and low-lying areas during the daily afternoon high tide through Sept. 7.

Motorists should avoid driving on flooded roads.

If you are forced to drive through salt water, be sure to rinse your vehicle with fresh water. Move electronics, vehicles, or other valuables to higher ground. Monitor vessels to ensure mooring lines don’t become too tight and watch out for overwash around boat ramps.
