25-year veteran Kauaʻi police officer continues exemplary work on the job
A month away from retirement, Officer Arnold Cayabyab was recognized as Employee of the Month for his outstanding investigative work and lasting contributions to public safety.

Cayabyab was honored for his role in two recent high-impact cases that led to the removal of illegal firearms and narcotics from the community.
On June 19, Cayabyab responded to a reckless endangerment incident in Hanapēpē, where his experience and attention to detail were crucial in advancing the case. His initial investigation helped secure and execute a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of multiple ghost guns, unregistered firearms, ammunition, and high-capacity magazines.
Just 10 days later, he responded to a complaint in ʻEleʻele and observed drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle. His proactive actions led to the seizure of the vehicle and the issuance of a search warrant, uncovering about 90 grams of methamphetamine, fentanyl, marijuana, and additional drug paraphernalia.
Over the course of a distinguished 25-year law enforcement career, including 22 years with the Kauaʻi Police Department and three with the Honolulu Police Department, Cayabyab has made significant contributions to community safety. He has served in specialized units such as vice and the Special Response Team and played a pivotal role in growing the K-9 program at the Kauaʻi Police Department.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Kauaʻi Police Department, I extend my deepest appreciation to Officer Cayabyab,” said Chief Kalani Ke. “Police work is one of the most challenging professions anyone can take on, and Officer Cayabyab carried out his duties with grace, professionalism, and integrity. His impact on this department and our community will be felt long after his retirement.”
According to his colleagues, he has been a trusted mentor, generously sharing his expertise with newer officers. His leadership, professionalism, and commitment to excellence have earned him numerous commendations and the lasting respect of those who worked with him.
The Kauaʻi Police Department is currently looking to hire police officers, dispatchers, public safety workers, and other civil service positions. To apply, or to learn more about salaries, benefits, and qualifications, visit joinkauaipd.com.
