A portion of Pūhi Road will close completely for 24 hours a day beginning next week.

A screenshot of Google Maps shows the portion to Pūhi Road between Hale‘ukana Street and Hanalima Street that will be fully closed beginning Monday until further notice.

The Department of Public Works and its contractor, Kaiwa Construction, announced a full road closure along a portion of Pūhi Road between the intersection of Hale‘ukana Street and Hanalima Street in Pūhi, starting Monday, Aug. 25, until further notice.

The closure is necessary for road work, which is anticipated to be complete in January 2026, weather permitting.

Motorists are urged to make arrangements to accommodate the road closures and allow extra time to reach destinations. During this time, parking will not be allowed in the work zone. Flaggers will be positioned at the work zone to direct traffic.

The work is part of the larger Pūhi Road Rehabilitation Phase II project from the Department of Public Works Engineering Division. Improvements include:

  • Reconstruction of Pūhi Road’s weakened pavements using asphalt concrete and/or Portland cement concrete;
  • Widening the roadway to accommodate new bike lanes and areas of parallel parking;
  • New sidewalk for the west side of Pūhi Road between Kaneka and Hanalima streets;
  • New shared-use path along the entire east side of the road.
