Firefighters extinguish quarter-acre brush fire Saturday near Ahukini Landing

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a quarter-acre brush fire Aug. 16 at an encampment on a hillside near Ahukini Landing outside Hanamāʻulu.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters with Līhu‘e Fire Station, Rescue 3, Tanker 1, personnel from Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and the on-duty battalion chief responded to the fire shortly after 6:10 p.m.

Preliminary reports say the blaze consisted of trash and brush at the campsite.

The fire was brought under control by 6:20 p.m. and fully extinguished shortly after, using about 4,000 gallons of water.

The scene was cleared by 7:35 p.m.

What caused the fire was deemed undetermined.
