Hawai‘i Public Utilities Commission scheduled a public hearing next week on Kaua’i to gather community input about an Aqua Puhi — doing business as Puhi Sewer & Water Company — application for proposed rate increases, revised rate schedules and changes to its tariff, which are the company’s regulated rules and policies.

Community members are encouraged to attend and share their views during the upcoming public hearing slated for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Līhuʻe State Office Building, located at 3060 ‘Eiwa St.

Puhi Sewer & Water seeks the commission’s approval to increase total revenue by $1,183,858, or about 54% more than it collects now, which would represent a potential 7.82% rate of return.

The water company also wants changes to its tariff, including rate and fee hikes along with revisions to its rules.

Puhi Sewer & Water asserts that current rates are not enough to cover its expenses or earn a fair return on its investments. Commissioners will investigate whether the company’s proposals are just and reasonable.

Copies of the water company’s rate increase application are available for review by contacting the commission’s Kaua‘i district office at 808-274-3232, its Honolulu office at 808-586-2020 or Division of Consumer Advocacy at 808-586-2800.

Written comments about proposal are also welcome and shoudl reference Docket No. 2025-0213.
