UPDATE: 2 more sharks spotted in Hanalei Bay; officials continue to advise no ocean activities

Update at 4:28 p.m. July 11, 2025: Two more sharks were sighted July 11 patrolling the waters at Hanalei Bay, causing Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials to continue advise no swimming or other ocean activities in the area until further notice.

Two 6- to 7-foot gray reef sharks shark were sighted the afternoon of July 11 in the bay. No injuries were reported.

A 4- to 6-foot shark was seen early the afternoon July 10, causing officials to issue their initial advisory for no swimming and other ocean activities in the area.

Warning signs continue to be posted. Ocean safety officials will continue to monitor the area.

Lifeguards will reassess the area situation July 12. If there are no other shark sightings, the beach will reopen to ocean activities.

These are the second and third sharks spotted in Hanalei Bay during the past 2 days.

Officials report that a 4- to 6-foot shark was sighted in the bay. No injuries were reported.
