Rivera began his Kaua‘i Police Department tenure in 2009. He has served in patrol, Vice, Property Crimes and Major Crimes, as well as had leadership roles including executive lieutenant.

He served most recently as acting assistant chief of the Support Services Bureau, temporarily fulfilling the duties of the position prior to his formal promotion.
