Kaua‘i structure fire kills 2 pets, displaces 2 residents
Two pets died and two people were displaced after a structure fire in Kapa‘a this morning.
Kaua‘i Fire Department responded to the blaze on Hoi Road shortly after 12:30 a.m. When crews arrived on scene, firefighters discovered a residence on fire. First responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated on the first floor of the structure, according to a preliminary report from Kaua‘i County.
The two individuals displaced were assisted by the American Red Cross.
Personnel with the Kapa‘a, Kaiākea, and Līhu‘e fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.
KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 3:35 a.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $353,000.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
