1 Hotel Hanalei Bay donates $10K to Kaua‘i Community College Culinary Arts Program
Hawai‘i’s mission-driven sustainable luxury resort in Princeville on Kaua‘i’s famous North Shore 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay recently added some cash to Kaua‘i Community College’s shopping fund made possible with assistance from a few more-than-gracious visiting celebrity chefs.
The resort donated $10,000 — raised during its past four “Chefs by Nature” culinary series events — to the community college’s culinary program, which will be used to provide scholarships supporting culinary education.
“Chefs by Nature” is a collaboration between the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay culinary team and visiting guest celebrity chefs.
It is designed to celebrate the Garden Isle’s local farmers, ranchers and growers along with the natural abundance of Kaua‘i — hosted by some of the world’s most celebrated chefs, who are each visiting the hotel from around the globe.
The previous four guest celebrity chefs were:
- Food Network’s Amanda Freitag.
- James Beard and Michelin star chef Nancy Silverton.
- Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” Melissa King.
- Hawai‘i’s own Bravo TV’s “Top Chef” Lee Anne Wong of Koko Head Café in Honolulu.
Working side-by-side with the 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay culinary crew, the celebrity chefs learn and discover the bounty of the Hawaiian Islands, local ingredients and traditional techniques as part of the series.
They also teach cooking master classes for guests and host charity dinners in support of Kaua‘i Community College’s Culinary Arts Program — further helping emerging local chefs bring even more artistry to the island.
The $10,000 donation was presented to Kaua‘i Community College Chancellor Margaret Sanchez and Culinary Arts Program Coordinator and chef instructor Steven Nakata during a special event June 24 at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay.
