REMINDER: Water service shutdown scheduled Wednesday for parts of Hanalei
Kauaʻi County Department of Water wants to make sure water customers in Hanalei remember that portions of the North Shore community will be affected by a water service shutdown from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (June 25), weather permitting, as crews continue work replacing aging water main infrastructure as part of the Hanalei Water Improvements Project.

Customers in the following locations will be impacted by the shutdown:
- Portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the northwest end of Weke Road.
- Kūhiō Highway, from Mahimahi Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn.
- ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road and Kumu Road.
The intersection of Kūhiō Highway and ʻAnae Road will also be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to through traffic.
Kūhiō Highway will remain open during work hours, but the roadway will be restricted to one lane of alternating traffic.
Customers in the impacted areas are advised to take the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs until water service is restored.
- Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors about the shutdown.
- Make sure faulty water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
- Businesses should prepare accordingly.
Water buffaloes — or trailer-mounted tanks carrying potable water — will be available for essential water needs during the shutdown.
Customers with their own water storage containers can access the tanks at the Waiʻoli Park soccer fields off Kūhiō Highway and Waiʻoli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road.
Updates to the water service shutdown will be posted on the Department of Water website.
