The shutdown, slated for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday (June 25), will impact customers located in the following areas:

  • Portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the northwest end of Weke Road.
  • Kūhiō Highway, from Mahimahi Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn.
  • Customers located on ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road and Kumu Road will also be impacted.

Additionally, the intersection of Kūhiō Highway with ʻAnae Road will be closed to through traffic from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The purpose of Hanalei Water Line Improvements Project is to replace the community’s aging water main infrastructure to meet current water system standards, including existing fire flow requirements.

To prepare for the water service shutdown, customers in the impacted areas are advised to take the following steps:

  • Store enough water to meet your needs until water service is restored.
  • Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors about the shutdown.
  • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure they do not empty during the shutdown.
  • Businesses should prepare accordingly for the water service disruption.

The Water Department will provide water buffaloes — or trailer-mounted tanks carrying potable water — for essential water needs during the shutdown. They will be located at the Waiʻoli Park soccer fields off Kūhiō Highway and Waiʻoli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road.

Customers will need to provide their own water storage containers.

Updates to the water service shutdown will be posted on the Department of Water website.
