Water conservation request stretches into 11th week for Hanalei and ʻAnini
It’s been nearly 3 months since Kauaʻi County Department of Water issued a water conservation request for customers in the Hanalei and ʻAnini Beach areas after a pump station experienced a mechanical failure at the beginning of April.

While the Water Department several weeks ago was able to finally secure a contractor to perform repairs and replace the damaged equipment at the pump station — with necessary components manufactured and now in transit to Kauaʻi — residents of the North Shore communities continue to be asked to remain vigilant in their conservation efforts at least for the foreseeable future to maintain water services and avoid a full service outage.
Work will begin to fix the pump station once the parts are received.
The water conservation request was originally issued April 4.
Hanalei and ʻAnini Beach customers are reminded to limit water use as much as possible. Water conservation measures include:
- Turning off appliances and fixtures that automatically draw water, such as ice machines and irrigation systems.
- Refraining from washing cars.
“[Kauaʻi County Department of Water] appreciates customers for their ongoing conservation efforts and cooperation,” the department said in an update June 18.
