Kaua‘i County reminds the public that it is in the process of updating its Multi-Hazard Mitigation and Resilience Plan.

During this process, county staff — along with community organizations and state colleagues — are reviewing and updating the plan’s elements, including impacts of natural hazards affecting the Garden Isle, capability to mitigate those risks and strategy for reducing vulnerabilities and increasing resiliency to natural disasters.

Federal Emergency Management Agency requires local jurisdictions to review and update their plans at least every 5 years to remain eligible for a range of federal programs, including FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant program.

The planning process includes a community open house and a feedback survey anticipated for late summer, with final plan approval anticipated during spring 2026.
