UPDATE: Hanalei water service shutdown to impact much smaller number of customers
Update at 11:03 p.m. June 17: Kauaʻi County Department of Water announced late Tuesday afternoon that several of the areas previously slated to be included in a scheduled water service shutdown Wednesday in the Hanalei area will no longer be affected, with the shutdown now expected to impact a much smaller number of customers.

The water service shutdown from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Hanalei will now only include the areas of:
- Kūhiō Highway, from the portion west of Hanalei Elementary School to the intersection of Kūhiō Highway with Mālolo Road.
- Mahimahi Road.
Previously mentioned roads of Weke Road and the portion of Kūhiō Highway that runs west of Hanalei Elementary School to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn, as well as ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road and Kumu Road will no longer be affected.
However, customers located in areas from the intersection of Kūhiō Highway and ʻAnae Road, up to Waikoko, could experience intermittent low water pressure throughout the day.
Water buffaloes — trailer-mounted tanks with potable water — also will no longer be provided.
Original post from 1 p.m. June 17: Kauaʻi County Department of Water reminds Hanalei customers that a water service shutdown is scheduled, weather permitting, this week as part of the Hanalei Water Line Improvments Project.

The shutdown is slated for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday.
Crews are working to replace aging water main infrastructure to meet water system standards, including existing fire flow requirements.
The shutdown will impact customers along:
- A portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the north end of Weke Road.
- Kūhiō Highway, from Mālolo Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn.
Other impacted areas include:
- ʻAmaʻama Road.
- ʻAnae Road.
- Heʻe Road.
- Mahimahi Road.
- Kumu Road.
Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare for the shutdown by taking the following steps:
- Store enough water to meet your needs until water service is restored.
- Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors about the shutdown.
- Those with faulty water heaters should ensure they do not empty during the shutdown.
- Businesses are advised to prepare accordingly for the disruption.
Water buffaloes — trailer-mounted tanks with potable water — will be provided for essential water needs during the shutdown. They will be located at the Waiʻoli Park off Kūhiō Highway and at Waiʻoli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road.
Customers will need to provide their own water storage containers.
Updates to the water service shutdown will be posted on the Department of Water website.
