Water service shutdown scheduled in Hanalei to replace water main infrastructure
A water service shutdown is scheduled for Wednesday for customers in Hanalei to replace the aging water main infrastructure.
The shutdown, which will occur starting at 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., will impact customers located on a portion of Weke Road, from Mālolo Road to the north end of Weke Road; Kūhiō Highway, from Mālolo Road to Waikoko, in the vicinity of the hairpin turn, according to a press release from Kaua‘i County.
Other impacted areas include ʻAmaʻama Road, ʻAnae Road, Heʻe Road and Kumu Road.
According to county officials, the replacement is needed to meet current water system standards, including existing fire flow requirements.
Customers located in the affected area are advised to prepare for the service shutdown by taking the following steps:
Store enough water to meet your needs during the shutdown.
Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors that may be affected by the service shutdown.
Businesses should plan appropriately prior to and during a water service shutdown.
Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
The Department of Water will provide water buffaloes for essential water needs during the water service shutdown. They will be located near the soccer field at Waioli Park off Kūhiō Highway and near the Waioli Beach Park off ʻAmaʻama Road. Customers should bring their own containers to get water.
