Water conservation stretches into 8th week for Hanalei, ‘Anini areas
A water conservation request issued by Kaua‘i County Department of Water at the beginning of April for customers in Hanalei and ʻAnini Beach on the North Shore has stretched into its eighth week — and will continue for the foreseeable future.
Water Department officials ask customers to remain vigilant in their conservation efforts to maintain water services and avoid a full service outage as they await necessary components and equipment to perform emergency repairs at a pump station that experienced a mechanical failure at the beginning of April.
The conservation request was originally issued April 4. Department officials were finally able to secure contractor services during the past couple of weeks for the emergency work to repair the pump station.
“[Kaua‘i County Department of Water] thanks customers for their continued conservation efforts and cooperation,” said the department’s most recent notification.
Water conservation measures include turning off appliances and fixtures that automatically draw water such as ice machines and irrigation systems and refraining from car washing.
Weekly reminders will continue to be provided via the Wireless Emergency Notification System, the county’s emergency notification system.
