Metal, appliance drop-off closed until further notice at some county facilities

Scrap metal and metal appliances recycling services at some county facilities will be closed until further notice beginning Thursday, May 29, 2025. (Photo File)

Contractor staffing issues are forcing Kaua‘i County Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division to close scrap metal and metal appliances recycling until further notice beginning today (May 29) at some of its collection facilities.

Affected facilities are:

  • Hanalei transfer station.
  • Hanapēpē transfer station.
  • Kekaha Landfill.

The county is working diligently to accommodate services and will update the public as more information becomes available.

Residents are encouraged to take these items to Puhi Metals Recycling Center, located at 3951 Puhi Road in Līhu‘e, during the suspension period.

Puhi Metals Recycling hours are 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Call 808-245-6919 for additional information.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this time,” the Solid Waste Division said in its announcement about the service change.
