Kaua‘i weekly lane closures: May 24-30

Hawai‘i Department of Transportation announced its weekly lane closures on Kaua‘i.

In observance of Memorial Day on May 26, there will be no contraflow and lane closures unless otherwise permitted. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.

— KAUMUALI‘I HIGHWAY (ROUTE 50) —

KIPU TO OMAO (NIGHT WORK)

Roving lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 2.9 to 8.7, in the vicinity of Kipu Road and Omao Road on May 27 to May 30 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for striping.

KIPU TO KŌLOA (NIGHT WORK)

Right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 2.9 to 6.6, in the vicinity of Kipu Road and Maluhia Road on May 28 to May 30 from 12:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. for vegetation clearing.

‘ELE‘ELE

Right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 14 to 15.5, May 27, to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for vegetation clearing.

KAUMAKANI TO WAIMEA

Right lane closure on Kaumuali‘i Highway (Route 50) possible in either direction, between mile post 19 to 22, May 27, to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for grass cutting and guardrail clearing.

— KŪHIŌ HIGHWAY (ROUTES 56/560) —

LĪHU‘E

Roving lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 0.0 to 1, in the vicinity of Rice Street and Laukini Road, on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for striping and installing markings.

LĪHU‘E (NIGHT WORK)

ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW AD

Right lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in the northbound direction, between mile post 4.3 to 5.5, in the vicinity of Wailua Golf Course and Wailua State Park, on May 27 and May 29 from 1 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. for grass cutting.

KAPA‘A (WEEKEND/NIGHT WORK)

Single lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) possible in either direction, between mile post 8 to 9.5, in the vicinity of Akia Road to Kealia lookout, from May 27 to May 30 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly for resurfacing, concrete, and electrical work. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.

KEALIA TO ANAHOLA

Right lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in the northbound direction, between mile post 9.9 to 13, between Mailihuna Road and Kukuihale Road on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for guardrail repair.

MOLOA‘A

Right lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) in the northbound direction, between mile post 18 to 20, in the vicinity of Ko‘olau Road on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass.

KĪLAUEA

All lanes on Kūhiō Highway (Route 56) remain open, however, the county road, Kolo Road that intersects with Kūhiō Highway is closed at the intersection. The intersection will be closed 24/7 through the first week in July 2025. To access Kilauea town, traffic is being routed to Ho‘okui Road and Pili Road. For work on the roundabout. PRINCEVILLE TO HANALEI

Single lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 0.3 to 1.2, between Hanalei Plantation Road and Ohiki Road, on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for pipe and gutter installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.

HANALEI

Single lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) in the westbound direction between mile post 2.7 to 3.3, between Cin Tai Wai Road and Anae Road on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for sidewalk installation. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.

WAIKOKO (24/7 CLOSURE)

Single lane closure on Kūhiō Highway (Route 560) possible in either direction between mile post 4.3 to 4.5, in the vicinity of Waikoko Bridge and Lumahai Trailhead, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for slope stabilization of Waikoko Hillside. — WAIMEA CANYON DRIVE (ROUTE 550) —

KŌKE‘E

Single lane closure on Waimea Canyon Drive (Route 550) possible in either direction between mile post 11.5 to 14, on May 27, to May 30 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for shoulder stabilization, grassing, guardrail, and striping. Alternating traffic will be routed through the open lane.

— KUAMO‘O ROAD (ROUTE 580) —

WAILUA HOMESTEADS

Right lane closure on Kuamo‘o Road (Route 580) possible in either direction between mile post 0.0 to 4.5, between Kūhiō Highway and Aina Pono Street, on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for cutting grass.

— TEMPORARY KAPA‘A BYPASS ROAD (ROUTE 5600) —

KAPAIA

Complete closure on Temporary Kapa‘a Bypass Road (Route 5600) in the southbound direction between mile post 0.0 to 0.7, in the vicinity of Kūhiō Highway and Olohena Road, on May 27 to May 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. for striping and marker installation.
