Līhu‘e transfer station again taking trailer loads and construction, demolition waste
Kaua‘i County Public Works Solid Waste Division announced Friday that waste disposal restrictions on construction and demolition debris as well as trailer loads — which have been in effect since September 2024 — are lifted effective immediately at the Līhu‘e transfer station.

“Mahalo to our community and businesses for your patience and understanding,” Kaua‘i County Mayor Derek Kawakami said in an announcement. “I also want to thank our Solid Waste team for stepping up and working hard to make this happen. Thanks to their efforts and some key positions being filled, services are more efficient and better serve our residents and customers.”
The following materials are now again accepted for disposal at the Līhu‘e transfer station:
- CONSTRUCTION and DEMOLITION DEBRIS cut to 3-foot lengths. (Examples: dry wall, wood waste, tile, roofing material, fiberglass shower stalls and tubs, plumbing pipes and carpet rolls.)
- TRAILER LOADS. Size limit is 5-foot-by-10-foot-by-2-foot or equivalent.
The following services will continue:
- PALLETS cut into quarters.
- LOOSE MIXED WASTE and BULKY ITEMS from residents.
- SMALL COMMERCIAL VEHICLES 3/4-ton truck capacity and lower with tip fee coupons purchased at Kaua‘i County Division of Motor Vehicles.
