Nareit Foundation seeks shovel-ready projects for its annual grant considerations
The Nareit Foundation is inviting affordable housing nonprofits in Hawaiʻi to submit applications for consideration of grants in support of their projects.
Since the introduction of the Nareit Hawaiʻi Community Giving Initiative in November 2018, the foundation has awarded $2.5 million in grants to support affordable housing programs by nonprofits on Maui, Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi Island, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu.
This year, applicants should be implementing projects that provide affordable housing for sale or rent. Grant funds are not intended for planning and nonprofits with “shovel-ready” projects will receive priority.
Funding for the Nareit Foundation grants is provided by contributions from Hawaiʻi’s real estate investment trusts, which are long-term property holders that own, renovate and manage income-producing real estate.
“We encourage our local nonprofits to submit grant applications and want to express our gratitude for their dedication to make housing more affordable and to strengthen our communities,” said Nareit executive director Gladys Qunito Marrone. We also appreciate the generous financial support of our (real estate investment trust) partners for making these grants available on an annual basis.”
All applicants must complete the grant application form that can also be accessed on the How to Apply section of the Nareit Hawaiʻi website by 5 p.m. Friday, June 13.
