The REAL ID Act was passed by U.S. Congress in 2005 and enacted on recommendation from the 9/11 Commission.

It established minimum security standards for state-issued driver licenses and identification cards, as well as prohibited federal agencies, including the Transportation Security Administration, from accepting state-issued driver licenses and ID cards that do not meet the minimum standards.

Kaua‘i County Division of Motor Vehicles is open Monday through Friday, except on state and federal holidays.
