Several educational, environmental events scheduled for Kauaʻi in the coming days

Kauaʻi has plenty to choose from when it comes to environmental and educational programs for the next two weeks.

Beginning Thursday, Kauaʻi Community College will be offering one-day personal enrichment classes to the community. Some classes are free and some cost a one-time fee. A few options include:

  • How to Start a Business: Prospective and new business owners can be introduced tot he fundamentals of starting a business in Hawaiʻi
    • Thursday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
    • Taught by Will Smith, the Director of Small Business Development Center Kauaʻi
    • Tuition is free
  • Ocean Safety Educational Course: Legal and regulatory requirements for persons who particippate in the sport of tow-in surfing, risk management principles, rules and lawas of protected species
    • Friday, April 25
    • Tution is $135
  • Reflexology III: Participants will embark on a journey of reflexology, explore its rich history, foundational theories and criticisms surrounding the ancient practice
    • Fri. April 25 fro 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Tuition is $100
  • Intro to Hawaiian Lei Making: Understanding the significance of the plant materials used, what they represent to practitioners, and basic protocols in the use of Hawaiian lei
    • Fri. April 25 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Tuition is $88

Understory Alliance and Kauaʻi Community College will also be putting on a hands-on, botany workshop with Understory Alliance where attendees will learn how plants, grow, breathe and connect with the soil, insects and each other.

The workshop will teach the basics of plant health, pruning, planting, and harvesting, with simple tips that can be used right away in your garden or community space.

“Plants in Practice: Practical Botany for Everyone” will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sat. April 26 at Kauaʻi Community College. Spots are limited, and can be reserved online.
