Hawaiʻi Department of Health has confirmed a second case of measles in the islands.

The case is an adult member of the household of the child on Oʻahu who was previously confirmed to be infected April 7. Both recently returned to the state from traveling internationally. The child’s family member had exhibited symptoms and was presumed infected.

As expected, test results April 16 confirmed measles infection.

Because of the duration between symptom onset and test specimen collection, an antibody test was performed which takes longer to process.

The adult is no longer contagious and the child has fully recovered.

State health officials also already investigated who might have been exposed based on being a presumed case of measles.
