Kaua‘i County reviewing, updating Multi-hazard Mitigation and Resilience Plan
The Federal Emergency Management Agency requires a community to review and update its Multi-Hazard Mitigation and Resilience Plan at least every 5 years to remain eligible for a range of the agency’s programs, including the agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant program and the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities Grant program.
Kaua‘i County is now reviewing and updating its plan.
County staff, along with community organizations and state colleagues, during this process are reviewing the previous plan’s elements — including impacts of natural hazards affecting Kaua‘i, the county’s capability to mitigate those risks and strategy for reducing vulnerabilities and increasing resiliency to natural disasters — and will update the plan as necessary.
A community open house and feedback survey are part of the process, which are anticipated for later this summer. Final 2026 plan approval is estimated for spring next year.
The county is keeping the community up to date online as review and planning unfold for the 2026 Multi-Hazard Mitigation and Resilience Plan.
A copy of the previous 2021 plan and additional information are available on the same website. Community members can also provide feedback on the plan and submit general comments.
