Additional lane, road closures and water service shutdown planned in various areas

Here’s a look at some additional upcoming lane and road closures along with a water service shutdown planned around the Garden Isle during the next week.

Lane closures scheduled through April 15 for guardrail work

Guardrail repair and installation work are planned, weather permitting, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 15 around the island, which will require lane closures on the following dates at the specified locations:

  • APRIL 9-11: Hulemalu Road, between Kīpū Road and Puhi Road.
  • APRIL 11-14: Po‘ipū Road, in the vicinity of the Po‘ipū Roundabout.
  • APRIL 14-15: Waha Road, between Papalina Road and Lauoho Road.

Motorists should make appropriate arrangements, and allow extra time to get to destinations.

No parking will be allowed in the work zones. Flaggers will be directing traffic at the work zones.

Guardrail work extended again on Lāwa‘i Road in Po‘ipū

Lāwa‘i Road, in the vicinity of the Po‘ipū Road roundabout and Hoonani, will now be closed from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 10 for guardrail repairs and installation work, weather permitting.

The work and associated closure were originally scheduled for April 3-4 and then pushed back through April 8. This is the third time the work and closure has been extended because of weather.

Full closure planned for Wailua Plantation Bridge

Makai Wailua Plantation Bridge, also known as Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste Memorial Bridge, will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. April 15-16, with a possibility of being closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. April 15-16, so Hawai‘i Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews can replace two panels.

Mauka Wailua Plantation Bridge will be open to traffic in both directions during the closure.

Water service shutdown scheduled for part of Kalāheo

Water service will be shutdown from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 16 for part of Pu‘u Road, between Papalina Road and Pu‘u Kulana Place, in Kalāheo for water system improvements, weather permitting.

Customers in that service area should prepare by: 

  • Storing water to meet their needs until water service is safely restored. 
  • Notifying neighbors, family and friends about the shutdown. 
  • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure they do not empty during the shutdown. 

Customers can monitor water service announcements at the Kaua‘i County Department of Water website.
