Woman in serious condition after 3-car crash on Kūhiō Highway
A 58-year-old woman is in serious condition after the vehicle she was traveling in was involved in a three-car crash on Kūhiō Highway in Kīlauea.
The crash occurred on Sunday at approximately 5:30 p.m. According to Kaua‘i County officials, a white 2024 Chevrolet SUV with two occupants was traveling south when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a white 2021 Toyota truck.
The white SUV continued south in the northbound lane and collided with a gray 2023 Chevrolet SUV.
The 60-year-old male driver of the white SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the 58-year-old female passenger was airlifted to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
The driver of the gray SUV was transported to Wilcox Medical Center in stable condition, and the driver of the Toyota truck was uninjured.
Kūhiō Highway was closed for approximately three hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
At this time, speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
