High surf conditions and powerful current activity at Hanalei Bay and along the entire North Shore are making ocean activities hazardous.

Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials advise no swimming and no recreational water activities in Hanalei Bay and the Hā‘ena area as well as along any North Shore areas.

A high surf warning is in effect through 6 p.m. today (April 6) for northern shorelines of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.

The National Weather Service forecast office in Honolulu says a large north-northwest swell is producing large breaking waves along north and east shores of both islands. These shorelines should also be avoided because large breaking waves could make it dangerous for spectators and anyone standing near the water.

Surf along the North Shore at about 10:30 a.m. today was between 15 to 25 feet.

Beachgoers are urged to heed all posted warnings and advisories.
