Reopen for business: Freshly face-lifted Shenanigans hosts sold-out Business After Hours
Shenanigans restaurant and bar on the U.S. Navy Pacific Missile Range Facility in Kekaha is reopen for business and again serving up classic American and Hawaiian favorites to sold-out crowds after getting a face-lift that was nearly 40 years in the making.
The popular Navy base restaurant celebrated its grand reopening by hosting a full house of Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce members and their guests March 27 during Business After Hours.
It marks an exciting new chapter in the restaurant and bar’s legacy of quality service, delicious food and spectacular views.
Shenanigans renovations included:
- Electrical upgrades.
- New exterior doors.
- New deck and railing.
- Additional storage.
- Fresh coats of interior and exterior paint.
With the face-lift finished, the westernmost restaurant and bar in the United States, is more than happy to welcome hungry diners back.
“With renewed ambiance, we’re excited to host special events such as weddings, holiday parties or perhaps just a nice dinner for two,” said Pacific Missile Range Facility Fleet and Family Readiness Director Jeffrey Shaw in an announcement about the recently completed renovations and Business After Hours event. “Enjoy great food, stay for the epic sunsets and you can’t beat the amazing whale watching from the newly installed deck.”
Shenanigans has served military members and local residents since it opened in 1989, originally designed more than 35 years ago as a combined club for Navy officers and chiefs.
It was a popular nightlife destination for the west side Kaua‘i community before Sept. 11, 2001, and continues to serve all patrons with guest access passes today.
The sold-out Business After Hours underscored the strong and valuable relationships between the Navy, Kaua‘i Chamber of Commerce, business owners and local community.
Pacific Missile Range Facility defense spending infuses about $173 million annually into Kaua‘i’s economy.
It employs 900-plus Garden Isle residents along with 80 active duty military personnel, making it the island’s third largest employer and its No. 1 employer for technology careers.
“We are able to stay connected because our team is part of the local community,” said Pacific Missile Range Facility commanding officer Capt. Brett Stevenson during his opening remarks at Business After Hours, adding the base’s employees are its family, proudly serving their nation every day. “We want to make sure that relationship endures so that future generations will continue to have opportunities for a career here on base.”
Shenanigans is open 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 4 to 9 p.m. Saturdays. It offers a menu packed with American and Hawaiian favorites along with its famous specialty pizzas.
