Kauaʻi County Department of Water — in an effort to encourage outdoor water conservation and help customers reduce their water bill — is honoring Earth Day 2025 by giving away 50-gallon rain barrels to 3 lucky Garden Isle residents.

These rain barrels are containers that capture and store rainwater — a valuable resource for gardening — from the roof.

Here’s what you need to know about the contest:

  • Kauaʻi households, businesses, schools and organizations are eligible to enter.
  • You must be 19 or older to enter.
  • You must arrange for pickup and delivery of the rain barrel if you are selected as one of the 3 winners.
  • Visit the Department of Water office in Līhuʻe to fill out an entry ticket.
  • Drawing will be April 30.

Consider donating to Water Department’s monthlong Earth Day Food Drive for Hawaiʻi Food Bank and Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank while you’re at the office filling out your entry form, too.

Donations of non-perishable food help reduce food waste in Kauaʻi County. Monetary donations also will be accepted; checks should be made out to Kauaʻi Independent Food Bank or Hawaiʻi Food Bank.

Contact the Department of Water at 808-245-5461 for additional information.
