Injured hiker rescued from ʻUluwehi Falls
First responders from several Kauaʻi agencies on April 1 rescued an injured 74-year-old visitor who was hiking at ʻUluwehi Falls, also known as Secret Falls, in Wailua.
Members of Kaua’i Fire Department Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, personnel with the Kapa‘a and Kaiākea fire stations and American Medical Response responded to the incident after receiving a report about a distressed hiker at 4:15 p.m.
Air 1 arrived at the scene and found the injured hiker near the falls. The visitor was extracted from the area and taken to a rendezvous point near the ‘Ōpaeka‘a Falls Lookout, where he was transferred to awaiting firefighters and medics.
American Medical Response personnel took over the injured hiker’s medical care and transported him to Wilcox Medical Center in Līhuʻe.
The scene was cleared shortly after 5:35 p.m.
