The County of Kaua‘i is updating its Multi-hazard Mitigation and Resilience Plan to address impacts of natural hazards affecting the Garden Isle as well as the county’s capability to mitigate those risks.

The planning process for the updated plan will include a community open house and a feedback survey anticipated for late summer with final plan approval anticipated for the spring of 2026. The updated plan will also include a strategy for reducing vulnerabilities and increasing resiliency to natural disasters.

The current plan was established in 2021. The Federal Emergency Management Agency requires local jurisdictions to review and update their plans at least every five years to remain eligible for a range of federal programs, including FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities grant program.

A copy of the 2021 Plan and additional information are currently available on this website.
