Intermittent full closure planned next week for portion of Kūhiō Highway
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation continues work to stabalize the hillside area between Hanalei Fire Station and ʻŌhiki Road along Kūhiō Highway after a devastating landslide 4 years ago in March 2021.

The Hanalei Hill emergency slope stabilization project will require the intermittent full closure of the highway in that area at the bottom of each hour from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1-2 to ensure the safety of vehicles traveling below the work area while a helicopter crew places wire mesh on the hillside to anchor loose soil.
Motorists should expect delays and make alternate travel plans if possible. First responders will be given priority through the work area should access be necessary.
