Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel on March 27 rescued an injured 35-year-old Ohio visitor from Kalalau Trail, a renowned and challenging 11-mile hike along the Nā Pali Coast on the North Shore that leads from Ke‘e Beach to Kalalau Beach.

Personnel with the Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to a report shortly after 5:30 p.m. of a distressed hiker on the trail.

First responders arrived at the scene near the Hanakāpī‘ai Beach landing zone and found the hiker, who had suffered an apparent shoulder injury.

The hiker was loaded into Air 1 and transferred to Princeville Airport, where Hanalei Fire Station and American Medical Response personnel were waiting to provide medical care.
