Police activities league to put on middle school track meet

Kaua‘i Police Activities League, in collaboration with Island School and Iwi Kua, announced the Mayor’s Youth Track Meet event for middle schoolers, providing an opportunity for young athletes to showcase their talents and compete in a fun and supportive environment.

Students from sixth to eighth grade can participate in a track meet that will take place at Island School in Līhu‘e at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 18.

In preparation for the spring track meet, there will be a coaches meeting today at 5:30 p.m. at the Kaua‘i Police Department, located at 3990 Ka‘ana St. Suite 200 in Līhu‘e. All coaches are required to attend to receive important event details and updates. Those unable to attend are requested to contact the organizers in advance.

Students will be competing in track events such as: 60-meter run; various relays; hurdle relay; 400-meter run; long jump; high jump; and shot put. The meet will be divided by grade level and gender, with an Open Mixed Division offered for relay events, which requires teams to consist of two boys and two girls with no grade restrictions.

Parents and guardians are asked to create an account on athletic.net and add their child as a ‘Managed Athlete.’ Step-by-step instructions can be found here.

Participants who are not affiliated with a school or cannot locate their school on the website may still register using the instructions here.

Coaches are required to register their athletes for their respective events prior to the meet. All athletes must have an account on athletic.net in order to be registered. The registration process will be reviewed in detail during the coaches’ meeting.
