Input needed for Kauaʻi’s long-range transportation plan
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation is updating the Regional Long-Range Land Transportation Plan for Kauaʻi after more than 10 years of changes in population, development and travel needs.
The Federal-Aid Highways 2035 Transportation Plan will assess the state’s transportation system’s facilities and programs while outlining policies and investment strategies to proactively address projected future needs and ensuring the mobility of people and goods and supports economic vitality and livability.
The regional plan for Kauaʻi maximizes available resources to provide a safe, efficient, accessible and sustainable state highways system after addressing future land transportation needs for freight, motorists, transit, bicyclists and pedestrians based on land use and socioeconomic projections through 2045.
Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation will host online public meetings for Kauaʻi this week to hear input from stakeholders and communities to assist in the planning process of the island’s transportation system’s facilities and programs.
The meetings will be facilitated on Microsoft Teams from noon to 1 p.m. today and 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday.
