High surf advisory goes into effect at midnight for Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau shorelines
A high surf advisory is in effect from midnight through Sunday for north- and west-facing shores of Ni‘ihau and Kaua‘i.
According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, a large northwest (310 degrees) swell will build surf heights to advisory levels overnight along exposed north- and west-facing shores and will peak Sunday afternoon. The swell will hold at advisory levels through at least Sunday night.
Surf along north-facing shores building to 14 to 20 feet. Surf along west-facing shores building to 10 to 16 feet.
Impacts will be moderate. Strong breaking waves and currents will make swimming dangerous.
Those headed to the beach should heed all advice from ocean safety officials. When in doubt, don’t go out.
