Here’s a look at upcoming lane closures, workshops, reminders and more from Kaua‘i County for Feb. 17-22 and a couple for later dates so you can put them on your calendar early.

Motorists are reminded to make appropriate arrangements, use alternate routes if and when possible as well as allow extra time to get to their destinations in the areas with scheduled lane closures.

All lane closures also are weather permitting.

Water shutdown scheduled near Kikiaola Boat Harbor

An overnight water service shutdown fronting the entrance to the Kikiaola Boat Harbor along Kaumuali‘i Highway in Kekaha is scheduled for 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Feb. 19-20, weather permitting.

The shutdown is necessary to allow contractor Goodfellow Bros. to work on a waterline as part of the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation emergency culvert repairs project. There will be no access to the harbor while crews work.

K-PAL celebrates completion of new multi-purpose court in Līhu‘e

Kaua‘i Police Activities League, or K-PAL, last week unveiled its new multi-purpose court in Līhu‘e.

The new court, located next to the Kaua‘i Philippine Cultural Center, will host basketball, pickleball and other community activities for youth. Its completion followed the successful grand opening of K-PAL’s boxing and wrestling facilities in October 2024.

K-PAL is dedicated to providing an atmosphere that motivates youth to lead drug-free lives and help them reach their full potential by providing activities, mentorship and, most importantly, fun. The newly renovated court embodies this vision, providing a space for positive connections between law enforcement and the community.

Last year, More than 1,100 youth participated in K-PAL’s flag football, boxing, jiu-jitsu and wrestling programs last year.

Lane closures scheduled for Haleko Road in Līhu‘e

Lane closures are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 24-28, weather permitting, along portions of Haleko Road in Līhu‘e for guardrail repair and installation work.

No parking will be allowed in the work zones. Flaggers also will direct traffic.

Reminder: Deadline for 2nd installment of real property tax looms

Kaua‘i property owners are reminded that their second installment of real property taxes for the 2024-25 tax year is due Feb. 20.

Payments can be made online, by mail, in person or at the drop box outside the Kapulē Building at the Līhu‘e Civic Center. Checks should be made payable to the director of finance.

No appointments are necessary to visit the Real Property Tax Collections Section during regular business hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays.

If you have not yet received your real property tax bill, contact the Real Property Tax Collections Section at 808-241-4272 or via email at rpc@kauai.gov.

Failure to pay in full by Feb. 20 will result in a 10% penalty plus 1% interest per month.

Community workshop scheduled for Waimea affordable housing plan

Kaua‘i County Housing Agency is hosting a community workshop from 5 to 7 p.m. March 6 in the Waimea Canyon Middle School cafeteria to discuss the Waimea 400 Affordable Housing Master Plan project.

Updates on the county’s progress for the Waimea 400 site and a conceptual plan based on community input gathered at the first and second workshops will be shared.

Fill out the RSVP Google Form and indicate how many people will be attending if you plan to be at the workshop. You can also sign up for email updates about the project.

The county Housing Agency still welcomes input from those unable to attend. Meeting materials will be posted on the Waimea 400 website following the meeting, along with an online collector form to gather your feedback.
