Update: High surf advisory canceled for north shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau
Update at 3:25 p.m. Feb. 13: National Weather Service forecasters in Honolulu canceled the high surf advisory that was in place for the north shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau.
Surf along those shorelines has fallen below the advisory threshold as a stubborn west-northwest swell continues to fade.
Original post from 12:32 p.m. Feb. 13: A fading west-northwest swell is being stubborn, maintaining low-end advisory level surf through this morning for northern shorelines of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau and will trend down through the rest of the today.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu extended a high surf advisory until 6 p.m. today for the north shores of both islands because of the persistent swell, with surf of 12 to 16 feet expected.
Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming and likely other ocean activities dangerous along the impacted shorelines.
The public is again urged to heed all advice from ocean safety officials in the advisory areas.
When in doubt, don’t go out.
