Firefighters battle blaze at business building in Līhu‘e
No injuries were reported in a fire Jan. 21 at a one-story business building in Līhu‘e. The cause of the early afternoon blaze remains under investigation.
Firefighters were dispatched Tuesday to a structure fire on Umi Street, arriving at about 1 p.m. to discover smoke coming from a rooftop vent of the business building.
Kaua‘i Fire Department crews made their way into the structure, encoutering heavy smoke before finding and fully extinguishing the blaze at its origin.
Investigators with the department’s Fire Prevention Bureau then took over the scene and conducted an investigation.
Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 3:15 p.m.
Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $90,000.
Personnel with the Kapa‘a, Kalāheo and Līhu‘e fire stations, Fire Prevention Bureau, Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative and Kaua‘i Police Department as well as the on-duty Kaua‘i Fire Department battalion chief responded to the fire.
