Closures on Pu‘uwai, Po‘ohiwi roads in Kalaheo extended through end of January
Intermittent lane closures and road closures on Pu‘uwai Road and Po‘ohiwi Road in Kalaheo will now be in place until the end of January as work on the Kalaheo Water Systems Improvements Project continues.
Excavation and waterline work is being conducted on Po‘ohiwi Road and along portions of Pu‘uwai Road. The work is expected through Jan. 31, weather permitting.
Residents, pedestrians and motorists are advised to adhere to flaggers and posted signs in the work zones.
Kaua’i County Department of Water and contractor Hawaiian Dredging Construction also remind the public about the following:
- Lane closures on Pu‘uwai Road: Partial lane closures in place 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday between the intersection with Po‘ohiwi Road and intersection with Kikala Road and from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays near Pu‘ulima Road. Additionally, intermittent lane closures will be implemented as work progresses.
- Road closure on a portion of Pu‘uwai Road: Road closure implemented 24 hours a day from the intersection of Pu‘ulima Road to the end of Pu‘uwai Road. This portion of the road is unpaved, without residential or commercial dwellings. No vehicle or pedestrian access and no parking will be allowed. Road closure signs and barriers will be posted.
- Local traffic only on Po‘ohiwi Road: Because of the narrow roadway, access will be granted to local traffic only from 8 m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The weekday access schedule through Jan. 31 for Po‘ohiwi Road is:
- Closed: 8 to 8:50 a.m. Open: 8:50 to 9 a.m.
- Closed: 9 to 9:50 a.m. Open: 9:50 to 10 a.m.
- Closed: 10 to 10:50 a.m. Open: 10:50 to 11 a.m.
- Closed: 11 to 11:50 a.m. Open: 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Closed: 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. Open: 1:20 to 1:30 p.m.
- Closed: 1:30 to 2:20 p.m. Open: 2:20 to 2:30 p.m.
- Closed: 2:30 to 3:20 p.m. Open: 3:20 p.m. until the next business day.
