Update: Firefighters knock down brush fire near ʻEhukai Road in Anahola

Update at 3:45 p.m. Jan. 7: Kaua‘i Fire Department reports that firefighters knocked down a brush fire near ʻEhukai Road in Anahola that caused the evacuation of several homes.

First responders are now dousing hot spots and monitoring the area. Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency also is keeping an eye on the incident.

No injuries or damages to structures were reported.

ʻEhukai Road Road, between Pilipoli Road and Holoikalapa Street, is closed at this time.

The public is advised to avoid the area.

Kaua‘i Fire Department said the blaze was reported shortly before 12:25 p.m. today. Fire officials estimate it burned fewer than 10 acres.

A few homes along ʻEhukai Road were evacuated as a precaution as the fire moved along the coastline near the road. Fortunately, the blaze moved away from homes.

Crews with the Kapa‘a, Kaiākea and Līhu‘e fire stations, Tender 1, Kaua‘i County Department of Public Works, Air 1, the on-duty Kaua‘i Fire Department battalion chief, Kaua‘i Police Department as well as aircraft rescue and firefighters are on the scene.

Original post at 1:56 p.m. Jan. 7: Several homes along ʻEhukai Road in Anahola were evacuated as a precaution while first responders battle a brush fire moving along the coastline near the roadway.

No other evacuations were ordered or are necessary as the fire is moving away from the homes at this time. Updates will be provided if conditions change.
