Visitor numbers increase for the fourth consecutive month across the Hawaiian Islands

November marked the fourth consecutive month with year-over-year growth in visitor arrivals and expenditures, according to the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism.

According to preliminary statistics, there were 770,940 visitors to the Hawaiian Islands in November of this year, which is an increase of 5.3% compared to the same month in 2023. Total visitor spending measured in nominal dollars was $1.55 billion, which is up to 2% from last year.

Total visitor arrivals in November 2024 represent a 95.3% recovery rate from pre-pandemic November 2019, which saw 809,076 visitors, and a 16% increase of nominal visitor spending from $1.34 billion in 2019.

In November 2024, 762,662 visitors arrived by air service and 8,278 visitors arrived via out-of-state cruise ships. In comparison, 721,342 visitors arrived by air and 10,936 visitors came by cruise ships in November 2023, and 792,547 visitors came by air and 16,529 visitors came by cruise ships in November 2019.

The average length of stay by all visitors in November 2024 was 8.43 days, which was 3.8% shorter than November 2023, which was 8.76 days, but 1.6% longer than November 2019, which was 8.30 days.

The statewide average daily census was 216,590 visitors in November of this year compared to 213,795 visitors in November 2023 and 223,746 visitors in November 2019.

This year, November saw visitors mainly from the U.S. West followed by U.S. East. There were 412,996 visitors from the U.S. West, an 8.5% increase from November 2023 and a 10.1% increase from November 2019, and 163,237 visitors from the U.S. East, a 6.3% increase from 2023 and 8.5% increase from 2019.
