Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials have closed all beaches along the North Shore of the Garden Island until further notice because of dangerous ocean conditions.

The public should not enter the water from Ka‘aka‘aniu Beach, also known as Larsen’s Beach, in Moloa‘a to Kē‘ē Beach and along Nā Pali Coast.

A high surf warning remains in effect through 6 a.m. Saturday for north and west shorelines.

The National Weather Service forecasts waves of 30 to 40 feet today along the North Shore, falling to 18 to 25 feet by Saturday morning.

Ocean Safety officials are observing large swells on northern beaches.

“Entering the water in these areas during the high surf warning is very hazardous and could cause serious injury or death,” said the Kaua‘i Fire Department. “Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves are very dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.”

The warning could be extended or modified as conditions develop.
