Update: Woman hit by vehicle while crossing Kūhiō Highway dies

Update at 6:49 p.m. Dec. 26: Kaua‘i police report the 25-year-old woman who was hit by a vehicle Dec. 22 while crossing Kūhiō Highway in Līhu‘e succumbed to her injuries and died Christmas Eve, Dec. 24.

She was identified as Anastasi Brown of Līhu‘e.

Brown’s death marks the seventh traffic-related fatality on Kaua‘i this year.

The Kaua‘i Police Department extends heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

Original post at 4:45 p.m. Dec. 22: A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle while crossing Kūhiō Highway this afternoon in Līhu‘e.

According to Kaua‘i police, a Hyundai sedan was traveling north on Kūhiō Highway near Wailua Golf Course at about 12:20 p.m. when the driver collided with the victim.

The victim, a 25-year-old woman with no permanent address, was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries and remains in critical condition. The driver did not report any injuries.

Police closed Kūhiō Highway in both directions for approximately two hours as officers with the Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor and toxicology results are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
