Public asked to weigh in on Waimea 400 Affordable Housing Master Plan project

The Kaua‘i County Housing Agency is seeking public feedback following a community workshop in November about the Waimea 400 Affordable Housing Master Plan project.

The Waimea 400 Master Plan was published in January 2022. It lays out a conceptual design and preferred uses of 417 acres the county acquired in 2019 in Waimea.

The master plan is the culmination of the knowledge, ideas and input from community residents, agencies and resource partners.

Based on previous community feedback, affordable housing will comprise roughly 60 acres of the site, just west of Waimea Sunset subdivision.

The first community workshop was conducted Feb. 20, with the second on Nov. 21.

The materials presented during the November workshop, along with a recording of the meeting, are posted on the project website.

All are invited to review and comment on any or all of the preliminary concept plans and housing types via the online survey.

Workshop materials are also posted at the Waimea Public Library, along with hard copies of the survey for those without internet access.

Conceptual drawings are also posted in the Līhu‘e Civic Center at the Pi‘ikoi Building next the county Housing Agency offices for public viewing.

These conceptual drawings include a QR code that directs the public to the project website.

Officials emphasized that the preliminary concept plans are not yet final, and the public is encouraged to share their feedback so designs can be refined.

Public input will be collected through Dec. 31.
